A Tentative Success

Remember I was going to root some grocery store rosemary? I had a ton of rosemary left in the packet after my rosemary chicken and veggies. I left it in the fridge for another week or so before I decided I had better root it.

I picked out six green springs between 2″ and 4″ long and stripped off the leaves from the bottom inch. I filled a narrow glass with some water, added a dash of rooting hormone, plunked the sprigs in the water, and set it by the window.

Critical Condition

September 9th, 2007 | 1 Comment

The second of my two orchids seems to be ok. None of the spotting has gotten worse in the last week. In fact, it’s doubled the size of the leaf in the last week; the leaf has grown a full inch in the last three weeks. Given that rate of growth, I’m going to assume that one is doing ok for now.

The other one is a different story. I woke up one morning this week and discovered that two of its leaves—the second lowest and the third lowest—had started yellowing.

The Black Thumb Strikes

September 2nd, 2007 | No Comments

The new leaf on this one is covered in pits, and the underside of some of the older, shriveled leaves (due to some previous dehydration that has since been sorted out) has some black spots. The leaf growth on this one has been stunted for about two months, though it is putting out a new aerial root.
