Good Morning, CMU

Adding to the list of undesirable morning sounds…
Bagpipes.
I am sitting in my office right now, listening to some bagpipes outside my window.
In the Annual Grad Student Office Shuffle of Summer ‘06, my officemate and I lobbied hard for an office with a window. Well, we had an office with a window last year, but this year we specified a window to the outside, as windows into another part of the building are less than useful. And we got an office with a window, which we have been enjoying for the past two weeks.
Along with the joys of fresh air and natural light and being able to look outside and see if it’s a) raining, or b) dark already, so I should go home, we also get the sounds of happy undergrads celebrating…whatever they celebrate…out on the Quad.
And the sounds of bagpipes in the morning.
Rumor has it that Carnegie Mellon is the only university in the country where you can major in bagpipe performance. Which is kind of cool, but I can’t appreciate it in the morning.
