Mmm…Coffee

I started drinking coffee in college. My average coffee intake has steadily increased since then.
During hell month, I drank at least one coffee every day (plus the occasional caffeinated tea or soda), which was facilitated by the presence of coffee stands right outside all my classrooms.
And so today, I thought I would begin caffeine detox because chemical dependencies are bad. Cold turkey. No coffee.
And then I fell asleep in class, not having my usual espresso to get me through it. And then I walked past a Caribou Coffee on my way back from class.
Mmm…coffee.
I don’t feel guilty at all. I like coffee. Moderate amounts of caffeine improve concentration and memory! Not to mention I’m a yuppie latte drinker, so that means I get lots of calcium! I mostly drink coffee in the morning or after lunch, so it doesn’t really affect my sleeping habits (so I rationalize, never mind that the insomnia of last week could very well have been caffeine-related in addition to being stress-related)!
Sounds like a full-blown addiction to me. I wonder if they have coffee rehab.

If they have rehab for bigots I’m sure they have rehab for caffeine addiction. Next will be rehab for redheads and rehab for people whose second toes are longer than their big toes.

You don’t need rehab! I secretly enjoy the fact that I have an (acceptable) addiction. I relish that feeling you get when you take the first sip. Although I do feel a bit frantic when I can’t get a coffee in the morning. A franticness that interferes with social interaction. Oh… maybe we do need rehab.
