‘Tis the Season

Normally, I am not a big junk food eater. I don’t snack much to begin with and generally prefer to eat something with actual nutritional value when I’m hungry. My weekly junk food consumption is typically limited to a handful of Doritos and a few chocolate-chip cookies at Friday lab meetings. But the combination of cooling weather and heightening stress unfailingly makes me want to gorge myself on fat and salt.
I stopped at the grocery store on my way home today to scrounge up something for dinner. In addition to a couple boxes of sushi*, I grabbed an assortment of cream-based soups, some salt-and-vinegar potato chips, and a bag of Dove chocolates. I’ve already polished off the sushi and am now happily munching the chips in between swigs of pineapple smoothie. The sweet/salty juxtaposition is excellent.
Tummy full. Serotonin up**. Yay!
*Yes, I know. But you try living in Pittsburgh, where restaurant sushi isn’t appreciably better than grocery-store sushi and the nearest place to get quality sushi is four hours away in DC.
**Speaking of neuro-geeky things, 3 Lbs. premieres tonight and I plan to watch. I hope it’s good!
