Pick Two

You know what they say…study, socialize, sleep. Pick two.
I’ve been trying to do all three this semester, and it hasn’t really worked all that well. In reality, I’ve just rotated which two I pick.
The first couple weeks, it was study, sleep.
Then it became socialize, sleep.
Then it was study, socialize.
Now it’s back to socialize, sleep.
I’m ready to be done with school. Don’t get me wrong, I love school. I just hate class. I do NOT learn well from a lecture format. Lecture, homework, lecture, homework…blegh. My favorite classes are seminar classes or lab classes where you actually get to, y’know…DO something. Interact with your fellow students, meet people, that sort of thing.
But I do love being in school, particularly at a large university like Madison. I love learning. I love being with people who have the same passions that I do. I love having the wealth of opportunity at my fingertips, just waiting for me to do something with it. Free gym memberships. Free yoga classes. All my friends living within walking distance. Over 600 student orgs to pick and choose from.
Speaking of student orgs, they really should be part of the above equation. Study, socialize, student orgs, sleep. Pick two.
Which might explain why I’m so tired right now. Because I’ve been attempting to pick three. I refuse to drop my student orgs.
My student orgs, especially UW Habitat, are my lifeblood, my sanity. I love being a part of Habitat. I love being a board member. Few things in life have as great a rate of return as joining Habitat did for me. I’ve made a lot of friends and done a lot of cool things. I know how to lay baseboard and to install a roof. I can hang doors and drywall. Plus nothing relieves stress like hammering 16-penny nails into two-by-fours.
Which I guess is good, because my stress is about to be compounded for the rest of the semester.
Study, socialize, student orgs, sleep, grad school applications. Pick two.
Oy.
