Smelling the Roses

I was making my regular blog rounds when I followed a link from Miss Snark and wound up here.
The piece really spoke to me, a classically-trained ex-violinist (Joshua Bell, I bow at your feet), someone who’s had a number of friends play on street corners for spare cash (and a few did better than Joshua Bell did), and someone who has a very low opinion of the rat race precisely because it robs us of the ability to appreciate peace and beauty and life in a form that doesn’t glorify instant gratification and slavish devotion to electronics.
Go read. Watch. And absorb.

The posted link was broken, but I believe this to be the response Michelle was referring to.
It’s a good point. Like I said, I’ve had friends play on the street and a few of them did better than that, and they were just high school kids at the time.
But I do feel compelled to point out that the way I found the intended link is because the exact same comment is posted verbatim on at least a half-dozen blogs. That’s a little spammy for my taste.

There is a great response to the Joshua Bell article by a NYC subway musician in her blog
She interprets the situation differently from the Washington Post reporters… I thought you might find it interesting.
