Single-Issue Voter

Super Duper Fat Tuesday has come and gone. On the right, we have Presumed Nominee McCain. On the left, we have deadlock. My state’s primary is actually going to matter! Yay!

I’ve already declared that I’m not voting for Clinton because political dynasties suck, but I’m going to give her a shot to win me back.

Lift the liquids ban.

Yes, that completely worthless and wholly irritating ban of liquids on flights. Toss the baggies, the 3.4 oz bottles, and the senseless debate over whether a bar of soap is a liquid or a gel. Admit it, it’s just security theatre.

When I flew out of Nashville last summer, I had a Nalgene full of water in my backpack. It was 4am and sleep-deprivation and fear of impending dehydration made me forget the liquids ban. As I went through security, the bag scanner stopped my bag and announced, “Water.”

Another security guy came up, put on rubber gloves, and gingerly removed the Nalgene from its little mesh pocket. He asked me to open the top, which I did, and then he vigorously tossed the contents into the trash before returning the Nalgene to me and letting me head to my flight.

Think about it. If my water is so potentially hazardous, why did a) the bag scanner clearly identify it as “water” instead of declaring it a suspicious substance, and b) the second security guy toss it in the trash? If I was actually carrying some kind of potentially explosive liquid, might tossing it in the trash like that, I dunno, cause it to detonate?

Clearly, no one believes that 4oz bottles of shampoo and hair gel present any sort of threat to national security, otherwise they’d be calling bomb squads and hazmat instead of chucking things in the trash. It’s dumb. And it’s time to get rid of it.

So, what about it, Hillary?
